Amada Torruella is a Salvadoran storyteller, filmmaker and curator. Her work is driven by ecofeminism, media literacy and culture making with an emphasis on community collaboration and experimentation. Through film, Amada explores migration, memory, intergenerational healing, dissonance and the Global South.
Amada has spent time in Ajo before, working on a pieces about local photographer Tom Kiefer and migrant/activist Dora Rodriguez. We admire her work and process, and were eager to bring her back. Of her upcoming residency, Amada writes: “As a migrant filmmaker and artist, I will document the contrasting ecosystems that make up the Sonoran desert region, as well as implement community driven art practices to nurture the cultural landscape in Ajo, Arizona.”
Amada will be in residence October 2021.
